Sales of Jurassic World Evolution 2 amounted to about 500 thousand copies — less than Frontier Developments wanted

Jurassic World Evolution 2 started slower than its developers expected. In two weeks since the release of the taikun about the construction of a park with dinosaurs, it has sold approximately 500 thousand copies on all platforms. As a result, Frontier Developments had to lower its financial forecast for the current year.

The company announced this in a report for investors.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 was released on November 9 on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X |S. The developers did not provide figures for each platform. However, it was noted that pre-orders of the game were at the level of its predecessor, released in 2018 (Jurassic World Evolution). As for sales directly, the console version “mostly met expectations,” while the PC version was lower than planned.

Separately, Frontier Developments mentioned that 440 thousand people were added to the Steam-vishlist of Jurassic World Evolution 2.

The company explained the relatively low sales of the game by an unsuccessful choice of a release date — many other major projects debuted in early November. For example, simultaneously with Jurassic World Evolution 2, Forza Horizon 5 and Football Manager 2022 were released, and two days later GTA released: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition.

Nevertheless, Frontier Developments expects that it will be able to increase sales of the dinosaur game by the New Year holidays. Also, Jurassic World Evolution 2 may be well affected by the premiere of the film “Jurassic World: Power” in June 2022. As the developers hope, this game will become the main source of income for the company in the current fiscal year (it will end in May 2022).

In total, this year Frontier Developments intends to earn £100-130 million ($133.6-173.7 million) instead of the previously projected £130-150 million ($173.7-200.5 million).

“Many thanks to everyone who participated in the launch of Jurassic World Evolution 2,” said David Braben, founder and CEO of Frontier Developments. “Although the initial sales on PC were lower than we had planned, the game is already played by about half a million people on all platforms around the world. She also received very high marks from critics and gamers. We are sure that this is another amazing addition to our gaming portfolio. Frontier’s future looks powerful, and our portfolio continues to grow.”
