Omdia: the revenue of the cloud gaming market will reach $4 billion by the end of the year. This is 188% more than in 2020

Omdia analysts shared their forecast regarding the cloud gaming market. According to their calculations, in 2021 gamers will spend $4 billion on such projects. For comparison, last year the market revenue was much more modest — $ 1.38 billion.

  • Analysts attribute the rapid growth of market revenue to the appearance of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription on PC. Recall that in September 2020, Microsoft made the Xbox Cloud Gaming cloud service part of this subscription.
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as well as PlayStation Now and other similar services will bring most of the revenue — $3.8 billion. Moreover, 70% of their earnings will come from the sale of subscriptions themselves, and microtransactions in games and one-time purchases will be responsible for the rest.
  • In 2025, the revenue of the cloud gaming market will grow to $12.1 billion. By this time, services for cloud gaming on a PC, such as GeForce Now from NVIDIA, will be slightly strengthened. They will grow by two percentage points and earn $0.9 billion per year (in 2021, their revenue should be only $ 0.2 billion).
