Activision Blizzard lost 15% of revenue in the third quarter
It’s time to report for the third quarter to Activision Blizzard publisher. Both financial indicators and the size of the audience continue to decline.
Activision Blizzard presented its report for July — September 2019 on the official website. As in the second quarter, the company’s dynamics are mostly negative.
Money
- The publisher’s net revenue fell to $1.28 billion. This is 15% less compared to the same quarter last year.
- Net receipts (net booking) decreased even more — by 27%. They amounted to $1.21 billion.
The publisher also showed how the revenue shares were distributed between Activision, Blizzard and King studios. The latter still earns more than the other two. And only she does not have a serious fall.
- Activision — $209 million in revenue (down 47% year-on-year);
- Blizzard — $394 million in revenue (down 38%);
- King — $500 million in revenue (down 1%).
It can be assumed that earnings for the third quarter of last year were higher thanks to Destiny 2. Recall that in January, the game developers, Bungie, left the publisher and took their big IP. In the second quarter, the decline in indicators was explained by the same reason.
At the same time, the company’s management stated that it expected lower revenue for the third quarter. In addition, the units also had some successes:
- record quarterly subscription growth has been achieved in the history of the World of Warcraft series (thanks to the recent launch of WoW Classic);
- net receipts of King projects almost doubled compared to the third quarter of last year.

All three companies also have data on MAU:
- Activision — 36 million people (monthly audience of games decreased by 22% year-on-year);
- Blizzard — 33 million people (11% decrease);
- King — 247 million people (a decrease of 6%).
In total, Activision Blizzard’s MAU fell by 8% year-on-year and amounted to 316 million players.
