In April, players spent $8.86 billion on digital versions of console, desktop and mobile games. In annual terms, this amount increased by 7%.

This was reported by Superdata analysts in their monthly report.

Players’ spending on console titles managed to compensate for sluggish sales on the PC. The console segment has become the fastest growing: its costs have increased by 17% year-on-year.

At the same time, digital sales of PC games fell by 4% compared to April 2018. The drop is not as significant as in March of this year. Then the turnover of the digital PC market decreased by 23% at once.

How the mobile games segment showed itself in April, SuperData did not report.

There are changes in the top of the most earning titles over the past month. So, Apex Legends dropped out of the rating of PC games and console games. Her income has been declining for the second month in a row. In April, she earned $24 million — and this is only a quarter of the game’s sales in the release month.

In addition, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 made a significant way down in the console top. A month before that, she led this rating.

Separately, SuperData analysts noted the success of Mortal Kombat 11. The game, released at the end of April, became the best digital launch in the history of the franchise. The sold-out circulation on PC and consoles has reached 1.8 million copies to date. For comparison: sales of Mortal Kombat X in its first month amounted to 400 thousand copies.
