Sales in the Epic Games Store totaled about $500 million in four months (UPDATED)
Epic Games Store has been running for four months. During this time, sales of games in it approached $ 500 million.
This figure was named by David Stelzer and Sergey Galenkin at the PAX East summit, writes Gamesindustry.biz . They stressed that 88% of these half a billion dollars were received by developers. Recall that the share of revenue that Epic Games Store takes from the authors of games is 12%.
Nevertheless, according to Steltzer and Galenkin, Epic Games has a long work to do on the store. Currently, the company plans to increase the number of currencies supported in it. Epic Games employees hope that over time, the Epic Games Store will surpass the “mainstay of the gaming industry” represented by Steam.
The store has already managed to lure several dozen publishers and their titles from Steam. Valve’s store charged them the standard 30%.
Refutation of Epic Games
After the publication of the original material, representatives of Epic Games refuted Steltzer’s words. The real number of game sales in the store differs from the one named by him.
We made a mistake at the PAX East investment summit by naming an inaccurate amount. The store got off to a good start, but we don't share revenue figures in it.
