Tencent earned half of the revenue of the Chinese online gaming market
The volume of the online gaming market in China for the 3rd quarter of 2017 amounted to $9.6 billion. 51.6% ($4.9 billion) of this amount was earned by Tencent Corporation, the research company iResearch China reported.
Tencent’s closest competitors, represented by NetEase and Perfect World, earned $1.3 billion and $220 million respectively in Q3.
In the coming months, Tencent’s share will increase even more. The Chinese giant is preparing to launch two mobile games on the local market based on the most popular “battle royale” of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS.
Chinese publishers of online games earn most of their money on mobile titles. Last quarter, mobile accounted for 65.7% of all net gaming revenue.
