The creators of PayDay closed the quarter with a loss of $ 4.1 million
Swedish studio Starbreeze Studios closed the 3rd quarter of this year with a loss of $4.1 million before taxes. The company’s management says that the decline is temporary and is associated with business expansion.
“We are expanding the field of activity, and this affects profitability and cash flow. Now we are actively doing business, increasing the development teams and the number of titles that we plan to release. So the decline is temporary,” said Bo Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze.
According to the report, the company aims to reach profit by the 4th quarter of 2018.
In addition to the costs, the company’s financial performance was affected by the unsuccessful launch of the cooperative shooter RAID: World War II by the Game Lion Game studio, where Starbreeze acted as a publisher.
At the same time, net sales of Starbreeze Studios in the 3rd quarter of 2017 increased by 11% compared to last year to $9.2 million.
The flagship online titles of the studio PAYDAY and Dead by Daylight earned $2.9 million and $5.6 million respectively during this period.
For 2020, Starbreeze plans to earn at least $237 million on game development, not counting income from PAYDAY 3, which the studio announced earlier this year.
The company also talks about its intention to master the VR platform and enter new regional markets.
