Godot has received a free Open Source port for the Nintendo Switch

Game studio RAWRLAB Games has released a toolkit for porting Godot games to the Nintendo Switch platform. The solution is free, distributed under the MIT license. The only limitation is that you need to be an authorized Nintendo developer to work with the code.

Key features of the solution:

  • It is provided "as is", without warranty and support from the developers;
  • includes only basic functions;
  • only GDScript is supported (however, those who know C++ will be able to add additional functionality);
  • optimization leaves much to be desired for complex solutions, but it is suitable for small and medium-sized games;
  • supports engine versions 3.5.x and 4.1.x

The port was the result of a collaboration between RAWRLAB Games, as well as several forum participants on the Nintendo Developer Portal. As they write on their development site: that's it, there are no more excuses not to make games for Nintendo Switch on the Godot Engine.

RAWRLAB Games is immediately engaged in the development, porting, and publishing of games on Switch. Despite a relatively wide portfolio of 13 projects, the studio has no notable hits. She has been working since 2014.
