Embracer Group Quarterly Report: Sales of $339 million and 180 games in development

Embracer Group has prepared a report for the first fiscal quarter of 2021 (ended June 30). During this time, the company’s gaming sales have almost doubled and profits have increased by half. The main growth driver was the release of Biomutant and the purchase of Easybrain with Gearbox.

  • In three months, Embracer Group earned $392 million in sales, of which $338.7 million was brought by games. Revenue from gaming sales increased by 83% year-on-year;
  • THQ Nordic projects accounted for the most of the total revenue from game sales — $76.5 million or 22.6%. This is followed by the Koch Media projects ($72.9 million or 21.5%) and Easybrain ($65.9 million or 19.4%). DECA Games brought the least money — $16.6 million or 5%;
  • The holding’s EBITDA increased by 59% to $175.3 million;
  • In the first quarter, Embracer Group invested a record $88.1 million in the creation of new games. By the end of June, she had 180 titles in development, which is 44% more than in 2020;
  • The total number of employees of the company has grown by 98% and reached 7886 people, of which 6387 are directly involved in the development;
  • Embracer Group noted that now it has become more active than ever before to send proposals for cooperation. The holding intends to continue buying gaming companies, for which it has $2.86 billion in cash and credit funds. Embracer Group has already acquired 11 studios this month alone, and it announced the purchase of three of them today.

Data on individual games:

  • The Biomutant role-playing action movie has become the main growth driver along with the Easybrain and Gearbox studios bought in February. In the week since its release in May, the game has recouped both the development costs and the purchase costs of Experiment 101, which developed it. At the moment, the circulation of the title exceeds one million copies sold;
  • the number of copies sold by Valheim has exceeded 8 million copies since its release in early February;
  • Chivalry II has sold two million copies. It became Torn Banner Studios‘ fastest selling game;
  • The games from the holding’s back catalog also proved to be good: Metro Exodus, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Deep Rock Galactic, Satisfaction, SnowRunner and World War Z. But Embracer Group did not disclose their sales.
