GameMaker Studio 2 will get support for Nintendo Switch
It will soon be possible to make games for the Nintendo Switch on the GameMaker Studio 2 engine. The developer of the engine, YoYo Games, has signed an agreement with the Nintendo Corporation.
Under the terms of the agreement, the opportunity to develop games for a hybrid console in GameMaker Studio 2 will appear this summer.
One of the first projects for Switch on the GameMaker Studio 2 engine will be the Undertale role-playing game by independent developer Toby Fox. Undertale was recognized as the best role-playing game and the best indie game of 2015, and also received several other awards.
Over the year of its existence, the Nintendo hybrid console has become one of the most priority platforms for independent developers. For example, the Switch edition of the indie platformer Celeste has overtaken the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game in terms of sales in two launch weeks.
