Ex-Insomniac employees will help Unity become an engine for AAA games

Unity Technologies has hired two former employees of Insomniac Games studio. They will have to adapt the Unity engine to the needs of high-budget game projects.

Mike Acton and Andreas Fredriksson joined the team of Unity Technologies’ new office, which the company opened the day before in the Los Angeles area called Burbank.

In the Unity team, both developers will be responsible for the development of the engine, relying on their experience, competence and knowledge of the requirements for the engine when creating AAA titles.

Commenting on the appointment, Mike Acton said: “This is not only not just an opportunity to change the approach to creating games, it is a chance to set a new quality bar in the design of large-scale gaming projects. I couldn’t stay away.”

Acton and Fredrickson were the leading engine specialists at Insomniac Games, where they worked on the Ratchet & Clank and Spider-Man game series. Fredrikson also managed to work at DICE, where he worked on the Frostbite engine for Battlefield 3.
