NPD: in November, the American gaming market earned $6.3 billion

In November, the earnings of the US gaming market decreased. NPD Group analysts found out that over the last fall month, Americans spent $6.3 billion on video games, hardware and accessories — 10% less than a year ago.

Forza Horizon 5Key data

  • The total turnover of the American gaming market in November amounted to $6.3 billion.
  • Of this amount, $5.13 billion was generated by sales of games (on consoles, PCs and mobile devices), as well as cloud and subscription services. The drop compared to last year is 1%.
  • Sales of gaming hardware decreased the most — by 38% at once in annual terms to $883 million. This is the lowest income since November 2016. According to analysts, the reason for this was the shortage of consoles.
  • Nintendo Switch received the title of the best-selling console both in terms of the number of devices sold and revenue in dollars. In November, Americans bought 1.13 million copies of Switch.
  • Accessory sales also fell — by 20% year-on-year to $258 million. Nevertheless, the Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel for Xbox and PC showed a good result. Analyst Mat Piscatella drew attention to the fact that dollar sales of the steering wheel doubled compared to November 2020. Perhaps this was partly due to the success of the racing game Forza Horizon 5, which had the best starting sales in the franchise.

Important: NPD tracks sales of physical copies from retailers and receives data on the “figure” from publishers. But not all companies provide information. For example, Nintendo does not disclose digital sales of exclusives, and Activision Blizzard does not share information from Battle.net .

The rating is also based on net sales of games (without microtransactions and subscriptions). An asterisk marks titles in which digital sales were not taken into account.
