Newzoo has published an overview of the Brazilian gaming market
The Brazilian gaming market is thriving, which cannot be said about the gamers themselves. Last year, the players brought the country $1.6 billion. At the same time, most people can only afford mobile games, Newzoo analysts write.
The company shared the research on its blog. Among other things, Newzoo talked about the situation with the country’s gaming segments, genre preferences of Brazilians and their favorite mechanics.
The main thing from the report:
- About 81.2 million gamers live in Brazil, and 70% of them mainly play on mobile devices. According to analysts, this choice is associated with the high cost of both console and PC titles, and gaming equipment;
- 38% of mobile gamers believe that they are a key audience for the gaming industry;
- casual games are not particularly interesting to Brazilians. They are much more willing to launch shooters, strategies, races and other competitive titles on their smartphones;

- Newzoo connects the passion for competitive games with the desire to feel the pleasure of winning. It is this reason that motivates at least a quarter of the players from Brazil;
- moreover, Brazilians like to develop their characters the most. This mechanic was called attractive by 36% of mobile players. Creative choice was the second most popular mechanic (31%), and open-world games were in third place (29%);

Based on the gaming preferences of the audience, analysts believe that gamers in Brazil are likely to be interested in experimenting with games on consoles and PCs, where these genres and mechanics dominate. In addition, the government of the country last month reduced taxes on consoles, games and accessories.
But Newzoo does not expect that changes can happen in the near future. Prices are still quite high, which means Brazilians will continue to play on smartphones.
