Sensor Tower: spending by European players on mobile games will reach $12.9 billion by 2022
Europeans’ spending on the App Store and Google Play will grow to $23 billion by 2020. Games will also start earning more, but the share of their revenue will decrease in comparison with the share of non-gaming applications.
This is reported by Sensor Tower analysts in a three-year forecast for the European segment of the iOS and Android applications market. There is data on revenue and installations up to and including 2020.
General figures
- In 2022, spending by Europeans on all types of apps in the App Store and Google Play will amount to $23.5 billion. This is 109% more compared to 2019.
- App Store revenue in Europe will grow by 109% to $12.6 billion in three years. In 2019, it was $6 billion.
- Google Play revenue for three years will also grow by 109% to $10.9 billion.
- At the same time, both stores will retain revenue shares comparable to last year. The App Store will account for 53.7% of the revenue of the entire app market by 2022. On Google Play — 46.3%.
- App downloads in Europe will grow to 29.6 billion by 2022. The difference compared to 2019 will be 22.7%.
- 22 billion installations will be for Google Play (an increase of 24.9%). Another 7.6 billion — for the App Store (an increase of 16.8%).
- Interestingly, in 2022 Russia will be the leader in mobile app downloads among other European countries. Russian users will generate 6.2 billion installations — 17.2% more than in 2019.
Numbers by games
- The “Games” category will remain the leading one in terms of spending and installations in both stores for three years.
- The total spending of Europeans on iOS and Android games will reach $12.9 billion in 2022. Compared to 2019, this is an increase of 72.8%.
- At the same time, the share of revenue of gaming applications will fall in comparison with non—gaming applications – from 66% to 55% in three years.
- Last year, the share of game revenue in the App Store was 49%. By 2022, it will be reduced to 39%. In Google Play, the share will decrease from 81% to 73% over the same period.
- Total installations of games in the European App Store and Google Play will reach 12.4 billion in 2022. This is an increase of 19% compared to the past year.
