App Annie: the main thing on the mobile games market for the 2nd quarter of 2019
The most interesting thing in the new App Annie report is information about the leading trends. Unfortunately, there are few details specifically on them (for example, analysts say that PUBG Mobile has the highest MAU, but do not specify exactly how much), but it is still worth attention.
The main trends
- in terms of downloads, the quarter was very successful for such hyper-casual games as Stack Ball (you can read about this project here), Run Race 3D, Tiles Hop: EDM Rush, Clean Road (we wrote about the success of its developers a little earlier), Traffic Run and Crowd City. This shows, according to App Annie, the huge interest of the audience in simple, intuitive gaming.
- in terms of cash, one of the central events of the quarter is the return of Clash of Clans to the top 10 most profitable games (we have already written about the reasons more than once, for example, here and here);
- it is also worth highlighting the appearance in the box office top 10 of the mobile Perfect World. Most of the game’s revenue comes from China, where the iOS release of the game took place in March;
- according to MAU, the first place among all gaming projects remains for PUBG Mobile. According to the results of the quarter, it is also among the ten most profitable mobile titles;
- Harry Potter: Wizards Unite from Niantic at the launch at the end of June became the most downloaded iOS app in the US and the UK (about how much the game earned at the start – here). However, today it is still questionable whether the title will be able to achieve comparable success with Pokémon GO, which, according to the results of the second quarter of this year, took sixth place in the chart of games with the highest MAU.
