Japanese console market grew for the first time in 3 years
For 6 months of 2017, the market of consoles and console video games in Japan increased by 14.8% to $1.35 billion. Growth in this segment was marked for the first time in three years, according to the publication Famitsu.
From January to the end of June this year, console sales reached 76.51 billion rubles ($675.5 million), an increase of 44% compared to the first half of 2016.
Game sales totaled ¥76.69 billion ($677.4 million), a decrease of 4.6% compared to last year.
The total market volume increased by 14.8% to ¥153.2 billion ($1.35 billion).
The rise in console sales was due to the launch of the Nintendo Switch console in early March of this year.
A few days ago, sales of a new Nintendo product overcame the milestone of 1 million units, making the Switch become the best-selling console in the Japan for the first half of 2017.
