The CFO of Games Workshop sold two-thirds of its shares amid the scandal with female custodes in Warhammer 40,000
The Games Workshop company, which owns the rights to the Warhammer universe, announced that financial director Rachel Tongue sold 7.5 thousand shares owned by her for 711.7 thousand pounds, or about 885 thousand dollars. She got rid of the shares shortly after a scandal broke out in the Warhammer 40,000 community over changes to Laura.
In mid-April, Warhammer 40,000 fans discovered a mention of female Custodes in the updated code of the Adeptus Custodes faction, although previously it was believed that only men could be in the faction. The appearance of such heroines caused outrage among some of the players. They began to massively cancel their Warhammer+ subscriptions and call for a boycott of the company.
Tong did not comment on the stock sale. It is worth noting that at the beginning of the year it became known about the impending resignation of Tong. The top manager decided not to be re-elected to her post and leave it in January 2025 after handing over duties to her successor.
The Warhammer 40,000 scandal had little effect on Games Workshop's stock. Since April 12, they have fallen by 1.18%. The company is now valued at 3.22 billion pounds ($4 billion).
