Beyond the ISBN: What Does It Really Take to Reach Chinese PC Players? Apply!

Join PC game developers, publishers, and investors for practical insights into reaching Chinese players, with time to ask questions and share your own experience.

China is one of the world's largest PC gaming markets, but for studios and publishers that have yet to seriously enter it, the route in can be difficult to understand from the outside. Steam remains an important part of the picture, while local platforms, key distribution, localization, pricing, marketing channels, communities, and regulation all shape how global titles reach Chinese players.

This roundtable is for developers and publishers who are considering China but have yet to seriously enter the market. Bring a real title, portfolio, or expansion challenge to the table: what's holding you back, what would you need to know before committing resources, which parts would you handle in-house versus with a local partner, and is an ISBN required to reach Chinese-speaking gamers?

Questions we'll explore:

  • What's holding you back from entering China? Regulation, lack of market knowledge, localization, distribution, marketing - or uncertainty about the potential ROI?
  • If your game is already attracting Chinese players on Steam, what does that actually tell you about the opportunity? And what other routes should you be considering?
  • Which distribution route makes sense for your game? Global Steam, platforms such as WeGame or Steam China, third-party key distribution - or a combination of channels?
  • How will Chinese players discover and buy your game? Which local communities, creators, forums, and social channels should be on your radar?
  • How much do you really need to adapt? Translation, pricing, promotions, culturalization, community management - where does localization end and a China-specific strategy begin?
  • What can your team realistically handle in-house, and where will you need local expertise or a partner?
  • How do you decide whether China is worth pursuing for your particular game? Genre fit, audience potential, expected revenue, timing, cost of entry - or something else?

Register your interest in joining the roundtable. Submitting the form does not guarantee a place at the table. Participation is subject to approval and requires a separate confirmation email from the WN team.
