Brian Fargo: Blockchain can end the era of DRM protection

Blockchain technology can replace existing solutions in the field of DRM (technical means for copyright protection), according to the founder of Interplay and inXile Entertainment studios, Brian Fargo.

The capabilities of the blockchain platform are used by Fargo’s latest project – the Robot Cache digital game store. With their help, in particular, Robot Cache users will be able to resell purchased games to other people.

As in the case of cryptocurrency transactions, blockchain can guarantee that a certain digital object does not exist in several places at the same time and cannot be moved without the confirmation of a decentralized blockchain system.

According to Fargo, the secondary market of digital games on its trading platform will benefit both gamers and publishers. According to the terms of the Robot Cache, with each resale of the title, the publisher will receive 70% of its value, and the player will be reimbursed 25% of this amount in Iron tokens – a special cryptocurrency of the Fargo store.

Robot Cache should be launched in the 2nd quarter of this year. The initial sale of Iron tokens began this month.
