Valve has introduced a new Half-Life. Only under VR. It is claimed as a full-fledged game for $60
The official announcement and presentation of a new game in the Half-Life series took place. It is called Half-Life: Alyx and will be released only in VR format on the PC platform.
“The game was created from scratch for virtual reality. But it has everything that the series is loved for: exploring the world, solving riddles, intuitive battles and an intricate story that connects all the iconic characters of the Half-Life universe,” Valve reports.
The game takes place between the first and second parts of the series. The main character is not Gordon Freeman, but his companion from Half-Life 2, Alix.
The release of the novelty is scheduled for March 2020. The game will appear 12 and a half years after the release of Half-Life 2: Episode II and 15 years after the release of the second part of the series.
Half-Life: Alyx will be distributed via Steam and support all VR devices (more precisely, the main series – Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and unexpectedly Windows Mixed Reality) working with a desktop, VentureBeat reports.
Valve assures that, unlike the company’s previous VR projects, the novelty will be a full-fledged big game (journalist Joff Kylie has already tried out the game and assures that its passage may take 15 hours). Her price tag is appropriate — $ 60.
Owners of the Valve Index virtual reality helmet (one of the latest VR devices, released only this summer, supports a resolution of 2880×1600, costs $ 1000) will receive the game for free.
The engine of the novelty is Source 2. After the release, users will receive a new set of tools for the development of the project.
