Steam no longer accepts Bitcoins
Bitcoin is breaking records in value, but they can no longer pay on Steam. The largest digital game store has stopped payments in cryptocurrency due to the instability of the exchange rate and high fees for transactions in bitcoins.
“Recently, we have seen fluctuations in the value of bitcoin and a significant increase in fees for transactions with this cryptocurrency. Transaction costs approached $20 per one transfer in bitcoins. For comparison, when we opened calculations in bitcoins, the costs were $0.2,” Valve commented on this decision.
The growth of operating fees leads to an inadequate rise in the cost of games when calculating in bitcoins. Sharp jumps in bitcoin cause users and the service additional problems.
If the transaction is carried out at the time of exchange rate fluctuations, the purchase amount will change up or down. When this happens, Valve either returns the overpaid amount or requires an additional payment.
Each new transaction is subject to a fee, in addition, due to constant fluctuations in the exchange rate, the amount of the surcharge or refund in cryptocurrency may change again up or down.
Valve admits that one day it will return bitcoin support. But not before the exchange rate of this currency stabilizes.
