Amazon persists in its ambition to create a Lord of the Rings game, in spite of speculation surrounding the possible termination of its MMORPG venture.

In an interview with IGN, Jeff Gattis, who leads Amazon Games, clarified that the claim of any project cancellation isn't entirely accurate, indicating the company continues to explore various game ideas.

Gattis remarked, "A few weeks ago, I reviewed a project I found quite engaging, which shows potential for advancement."

He emphasized the ongoing evaluation process to determine which game concept would resonate best with audiences.

Gattis recently neither confirmed nor refuted reports regarding the halt on the Lord of the Rings MMO project, instead emphasizing Amazon’s ongoing dedication to crafting a new gaming experience set in the famed fantasy realm. Collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises remains a key focus as they continue to champion the franchise.

As part of Amazon's wider strategy, which encompasses titles like Tomb Raider and James Bond, Gattis shared that the preference is on enhancing well-established intellectual properties rather than creating new ones from scratch.

He added that the company is investing in innovative game mechanics that could lead to the development of new IPs but highlighted the lengthy nature of such projects, reassuring that new releases are forthcoming.

Gattis reiterated Amazon's strong focus on the AAA gaming sector, discussing the analysis done over the past year to discern which content aligns with their strategic goals. He pointed out that any AAA projects pursued by Amazon must have a definitive place within the company's ecosystem.
