The Main Events from the Weekend (September 13-14)

Roskomnadzor has added itch.io to the list of sites blocked in Russia, the creative director of Hell is Us called the surprise release of Hollow Knight: Silksong "a somewhat heartless decision," and the peak concurrent users for Borderlands 4 on Steam exceeded 304,000 people. Here’s a rundown of the key events in the gaming industry over the past weekend.

  • The domain itch.io was added to the Roskomnadzor registry, which collects internet resources blocked in Russia. The reason given was the dissemination of information banned in the country. The explanation in the registry states that the agency was dissatisfied with some page of the game store, though it did not specify which one.

  • Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, creative director of Hell is Us, discussed the "shadow drop" of Hollow Knight: Silksong on the Friends Per Second podcast. In his opinion, Team Cherry acted somewhat heartlessly towards other indie developers by announcing the game’s release date just two weeks in advance. He stated that Hollow Knight: Silksong is like "GTA VI in the indie world," so such a surprise affected many teams. Nonetheless, Jacques-Belletête acknowledged that the creators of the metroidvania had every right to do so. He also didn’t regret that Rogue Factor and Nacon chose not to change their plans and released Hell is Us on September 4th, the same day as Hollow Knight: Silksong.
  • Techland announced that over a million people pre-ordered Dying Light: The Beast. To celebrate, they decided to move the release up by a day; the zombie action game will now be released on September 18th, not the 19th. It should be noted that currently, Dying Light: The Beast is the seventh most wished-for unreleased game on Steam, trailing only Subnautica 2, Deadlock, Battlefield 6, Light No Fire, ARC Raiders, and Arena Breakout: Infinite in terms of wishlists on the platform.
  • As expected, over the weekend, Borderlands 4 set a new record for peak concurrent users on Steam. According to SteamDB, on Sunday, September 14th, 304,398 people were playing the game simultaneously. This ranks fifth among 2025 releases and 46th in the history of Steam.
