The Chinese gaming industry earned a record $44.8 billion in 2024
The China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association presented the annual report on the state of the local gaming market for 2024.
- In 2024, the revenue of China's gaming industry reached 325.8 billion yuan ($44.8 billion), which is 7.53% more than the previous year.
- Traditionally, a significant portion of the revenue came from the mobile games segment—238.2 billion yuan ($32.7 billion). The second largest segment was PC games, generating 68 billion yuan ($9.3 billion).
- In the international market, Chinese games generated 18.6 billion yuan ($2.55 billion). For the first time in three years, growth was 13.4%.
- Chinese mobile projects earned the most outside China in the USA, accounting for 31.1% of the total international revenue. Japan ranked second with 17.3%, followed by South Korea with 8.9%. The Chinese edition SCMP also noted that Saudi Arabia entered the top 10 for the first time.
- According to the report, by the end of 2024, there were 674 million gamers in China. However, this number has remained almost unchanged from the previous year, with an increase of just 0.94%.
