Ubisoft has confirmed the development of Assassin's Creed Infinity. The game may turn out to be an online platform
Ubisoft has started work on Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which will determine the future development vector of the entire series. The company itself is still reluctant to share details, but it will probably be an ever-evolving game service. At the head of the development is one of the creators of Splinter Cell. For the first time, Jason Schreier told about Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
In his material for Bloomberg, he revealed some details of the project, which Ubisoft employees anonymously shared with them.
What is known about Assassin’s Creed Infinity? The project is called an online platform and is compared to GTA Online and Fortnite.
- It will be supported for many years and new content will be regularly released for it.Infinity can consist of several separate games.
- They will differ in historical settings, scales and gameplay mechanics, but they will be related to each other in one way or another. Thus, Ubisoft may reconsider its strategy to release new parts of the series every year or two.
- Instead, the company will create a single ecosystem based on Infinity for future games.According to Schreier, the release of the project will take place no earlier than 2024.
- Since Infinity is being developed by the studios responsible for the franchise in Quebec and Montreal, it is not worth waiting for new major games in the series before its release.Ubisoft Statement
The publisher officially confirmed the work on Assassin’s Creed Infinity a few hours after the release of Schreyer’s material.
“We now understand that the decisions we make will determine the future of the franchise for years to come,” the statement said.
Ubisoft has not confirmed or denied the information about the creation of a service platform. However, the company is in no hurry to share more details about the upcoming project. To work on Infinity, it was decided to combine the efforts of employees from Quebec and Montreal to create a single studio based on them. The new structure will be headed by Marc-Alexis Coté, who has worked on the franchise since the days of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.
The creative directors of the project will be Jonathan Dumont and Clint Hocking. The former previously worked on Syndicate and Odyssey. Hawking started his career at Ubisoft in 2001, acting as a level designer, game designer and screenwriter of the first Splinter Cell. He was also the creative director of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Watch Dogs: Legion.
Assassin’s Creed is Ubisoft’s most successful franchise. The total circulation of all games in the series exceeds 155 million copies. However, in an ever-changing industry, the company is trying to revise its traditional approach to the annual release of several large AAA titles.
Previously, Ubisoft said that it wants to develop new business lines. In particular, the company will release more free-to-play games to expand the audience of its key franchises.
