CreativeForge Games: "We adjust each contract to a specific developer"
We continue the mini-series of interviews in the framework of the WN Dev Contest. In them, the jury of the competition shares tips on working in the games market. This time we talked with Piotr Karbowski, CEO of CreativeForge Games (part of PlayWay).Peter Karbowski
App2Top.ru Q: What are the main mistakes developers make in the process of creating games?
Peter: Sometimes they overcomplicate the game, take on too big projects or develop titles that have no chance of success.
App2Top.ru: Developers often want to make a dream game, something phenomenally big. The new “Witcher” or The Elder Scrolls. How do publishers look at these ambitions, is it worth encouraging them? Peter: It’s best if the developers properly study the example of those few teams that went the same way. Unfortunately, as practice shows, if this is your first or second game, then this [work on a major project] is the wrong way. App2Top.ru : Each publisher on the market offers its own set of services. What does the process of publishing the game mean to you? Where does the publisher’s work begin and end? Peter: We adjust each contract to a specific developer. Sometimes we fully finance the project, and sometimes we allocate money only for marketing without investing in development. App2Top.ru Q: Is it important for you as a publisher that the developer adheres to your workflows? Peter: It is important for us that the developer can provide us with a full report on the work done on a monthly basis and perform each of the development stages in a timely manner. App2Top.ru Q: What games are you looking for in the contest? Peter: This may be a studio consisting of one person, with a unique game, and not just a platformer. Or it can be a team of several people who are open to working on new projects.
