Bloomberg: Swedish gaming companies are leading the stock market in 2020
While some gaming companies are only trying to enter the stock exchange, the Swedish game dev is actively earning there. According to Bloomberg, Swedish gaming quotes have become the best this year — they showed the most significant growth. For example, the stock price of individual companies jumped by an astronomical 300%.
The main thing from the Bloomberg material:
- Stillfront Group and Embracer Group were among the most successful companies in 2020. Their shares are up 170% — more than anyone else in the Solactive global video game index.;
- Another outstanding result was shown by G5 Entertainment, whose assets increased fourfold at once. By the way, this provided G5 with the second place in terms of growth rates among 365 Swedish organizations tracked by the OMX Stockholm index.;
- the success of Swedish gaming companies has become largely possible due to their proximity to large investment funds, analysts say. This money helps the Swedes massively buy up other gaming companies. For example, Embracer alone acquired 12 studios and one PR agency at a time last month;
- another important factor in the impressive growth of Swedish companies was high gaming sales. In 2014-2019, they rose by 160% and reached the mark of SEK 24.3 billion ($2.9 billion);
- Also, the COVID-19 pandemic played an important role in 2020, along with the release of a new generation of consoles.
- analysts predict that the quotes of Swedish gaming companies will continue to grow in 2021 and even reach record levels there. However, their growth will soon slow down, and the behavior of company managers will become more cautious due to the risk of not meeting inflated expectations.
