Blizzard veterans have opened their own studio. They will do RTS

Former developers of StarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3 have founded a studio that will create real-time strategies. They have already raised $4.7 million, including from Riot Games.

The new studio was named Frost Giant Studios. It was headed by Tim Morten, who previously worked on StarCraft II, and Tim Campbell, the former lead designer of the WarCraft III campaign: The Frozen Throne.

In an interview with GameDaily, the developers said that they want to make the RTS genre more popular and accessible to a wide range of gamers. According to them, real-time strategies undeservedly enjoy the fame of overly complex games. Therefore, Morten and Campbell will pay special attention to taking into account the needs of novice gamers. However, the developers do not plan to forget about hardcore players either.

We strive to maintain high genre requirements for the skills of experienced players, while lowering the entry threshold for beginners. For example, a team cooperative will seriously reduce the pressure on new players without affecting the experience of high-class players who prefer one-on-one fights.

The management of Frost Giant also announced plans to release games that are “interesting not only to play, but also to watch.”

The details of the company’s first project are still unknown. But Frost Giant has already received investments in the amount of $ 4.7 million, which will be used to develop a prototype of the game. Among the investors are Riot Games, BITKRAFT, 1 Up Ventures, GC Tracker and Griffin Gaming Partners.

Previously, former Blizzard employees have been asking this company to “give the green light” to the RTS genre for years to no avail,” Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier points out on Twitter. From his point of view, there is nothing surprising in the fact that after so many refusals Morten and Campbell founded their own studio.

Also note that Frost Giant was opened a few days after Blizzard announced the termination of the release of new content for StarCraft II.
