Amazon has closed the Crucible shooter, which became the company's first big-budget game
Amazon has announced the closure of the online shooter Crucible. It has been in development since 2014 and was supposed to help the company gain a foothold in the video game market, but in the end it could not get out of the closed beta..Crucible was originally released in May of this year.
The project received mixed reviews from critics and returned to the status of a closed beta in July. Last Friday, the developers from Relentless Studios reported that they do not see the game’s potential for development.
“We are very grateful to our fans who have rallied around our game, and we liked your reaction to the changes we have made over the past few months. But in the end, we could not see a sustainable future for Crucible,“ the developers said in a statement.
The company will refund the funds for in-app purchases, and the game servers will be completely disabled on November 9. Now Amazon will switch to creating other projects.
Despite a number of announced titles, Amazon Game Studios has faced a number of problems. MMO New World, the development of which Relentless Studios has now switched to, has already been postponed twice, and Pac-Man Live Studio, originally scheduled for June this year, now has no release date.
