118 Chinese apps blocked in India, including PUBG Mobile

The Indian government has taken drastic measures after all. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the country announced the blocking of 118 mobile applications created by Chinese companies. Blockbusters such as PUBG Mobile, Game of Sultans and Rise of Kingdoms were banned, among others.

The official reason is “damage to the sovereignty and integrity of India.” The ministry’s order states that the blocked applications were seen in actions that pose a threat to the security of the country and public order.

It is also noted that the ministry has repeatedly received appeals according to which banned iOS and Android apps stole and secretly transferred users’ personal data to servers located outside India.

So, the statement says, the officials decided to follow the advice of the Cybersecurity Center and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The blockage occurred against the background of India’s statements that at the end of August, Chinese troops carried out “provocative movements” on the border with India. We are talking about the disputed territory near Lake Pangong-Tso in the Ladakh region in the Eastern Himalayas.

This is the second major conflict in this territory between India and China over the summer. On July 15, at least 40 soldiers from the Indian side were killed during military operations between the armies. India has since blocked 59 mobile apps, including TikTok. Then officials only threatened to close PUBG.

The termination of PUBG Mobile in the country is understandable in the current conditions, but at the same time a difficult step. PUBG Mobile is today the most downloaded and cashed game in India. And although the ministry says in the order that the society supports blocking, in fact, users begged officials not to give the game a “red light”.
