Rockstar has launched its own launcher
The number of gaming companies with their own stores included Rockstar. She launched the Rockstar Games Launcher for PC players.
This is reported by VentureBeat. The Rockstar launcher features the studio’s own games, though not all of them yet. Now only four GTA series games are available, as well as L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3 and Bully. Red Dead Redemption 2, several GTA and the first games of the Max Payne series are missing.
Among its launcher functions are the following:
- managing games purchased in both physical and digital format;
- cloud saves of all supported games;
- automatic updates of even the oldest products;
- compatible with Steam versions of Rockstar games. The studio is clearly not going to leave the Valve store, at least at the moment.
Of course, Rockstar will receive 100% of its revenue from its own games in its store. The same privilege is enjoyed by Bethesda and Blizzard, which have launched their own stores. Publishing games on Steam forces publishers to give Valve 30% of earnings from games. In the Epic Games Store, the percentage is lower — 12%, but it’s still part of the revenue, which I don’t want to share.
Nevertheless, Rockstar Games Launcher may not be so successful (by analogy with Bethesda Launcher). The library of games in it is still small, new releases are not coming soon, there are few useful functions. And there is also no support for custom modifications — and this is a very important feature for GTA fans.
Note: Rockstar offers a free copy of GTA 2004: San Andreas in the new launcher. Perhaps this will make it more attractive at the start.
