Developers will be able to implement voice chat from Fortnite into their Switch games

The voice and text chat system from Fortnite is now available to any game developer for Switch. Vivox has released its SDK for them, Kotaku writes. Previously, the service supported only Xbox One, PS4, PC and mobile platforms.

Vivox is a cross—platform service for in-game communication. With this SDK, there is no need to develop your own voice and text chats.

Nintendo already has its own solution. She did not implement a voice chat function in her console, but created a mobile application for this purpose. Players had to connect their smartphones and headsets to the switch via a splitter. Many found it inconvenient. But in the case of Vivox, they will only need a regular headset.

In general, across all platforms, Vivox is integrated into 125 games. The most famous of them are:

  • Fortnite;
  • PUBG;
  • League of Legends;
  • Paladins;
  • World of Tanks;
  • Rainbox Six Siege.

Previously, Vivox made its service free for indie developers on other platforms.

Now she has extended the SDK to Switch as well. This new step is quite logical if we remember that Switch is a very popular platform among indies today.

The current announcement took place after Vivox became a subsidiary of Unity. The creator of the engine said that he would offer Vivox technologies to cross-platform developers.

The Vivox SDK for Nintendo Switch can be downloaded from the company’s official website.
