Wargaming has launched a studio in the UK. It will be headed by the former vice president of Electronic Arts
The developer of World of Tanks continues to grow. Wargaming has announced the launch of a new studio. This time in the UK. Sean Decker, who previously worked in leadership positions at Maxis, DICE, Electronic Arts and CCP, will head the studio.
In particular, in the Maxis studio responsible for SimCity, Sean was a senior producer, and at EA he was responsible for working with freeplay and microtransactions until June 2013. Whether he formed teams and studios from scratch before, as he will have to do in Guildford, where the new Wargaming office is located, is unknown.
The new studio will undertake the creation of a free-duplex multiplatform MMO. Its development will be carried out on Unreal Engine 4, with the developer of which the Belarusian company signed a partnership agreement last year. More details about the new project were not disclosed.
Due to the announcement, Wargaming has opened only 25 vacancies so far. It is assumed that these specialists will form the future backbone of the studio.
Among others, the company is looking for a technical director, an art director, a lead producer and an interface designer. One of the key requirements of each vacancy is an excellent knowledge of English and experience of 5-10 years within a specific specialty.
Wargaming is not the first time trying to make games outside of Eastern Europe. In 2013, Wargaming acquired Gas Powered Games and renamed it Wargaming Seattle, which was headed by Chris Taylor for several years. In May of this year, it was closed. Wargaming also had a British division, whose liquidation the company announced in June 2017. Now the company has a Finnish office built on the basis of Boomlagoon and engaged in mobile development.
