The turnover of the Canadian gaming market reached $2.3 billion

Canada ranks 8th in the world in terms of gaming market turnover. In 2018, the spending of gamers from this country will amount to $2.3 billion, Newzoo analysts estimate.

Note that two years ago Canada was in ninth place. In 2016, local gamers spent $1.8 billion – that is, the market grew by half a billion in two years.

The population of Canada is about 36.3 million people. According to Newzoo, today more than half of them, 21.2 million, play games.

Mobile is the most popular platform in Canada, and the only one where there are more women playing than men. In consoles, on the contrary, there is a big gap in favor of the male audience.

Two-thirds of the paying audience are players who have made in-game purchases in the last six months.

Interesting fact: although the share of gamers in Canada is large, gaming video content is not watched by many Canadians – only 31%.

The popularity of esports in the country is also small – only 6% of players who know about this phenomenon are interested in it. The most popular esports discipline among Canadians is League of Legends.
