Hot December 2017: players spent $10 billion on games
SuperData adjusted the market figures for last December. It turned out to be fruitful. Gamers spent $10 billion on games.
It is traditionally only about digital sales in the world. SuperData does not take into account retail.
The mark of $10 billion per month for the market is a lot. The growth compared to December 2016 is 17%. Monthly growth is also big. For comparison, a little earlier this year, the games market started working:
- for October – $8.5 billion;
- for September – $8.3 billion;
- for August – $7.9 billion.
We would also give a figure for November, but SuperData did not publish it.
As for December, the $10 billion spent by gamers explains:
- 28% increase in sales of paid games on PC;
- 27% increase in mobile game sales;
- 15% increase in sales of console games.
What kind of game to say thank you for lifting the premium PC “from the knees” analysts do not report. Most likely, Steam is to blame for everything (we are talking about sales). But we know for sure about the consoles – the drivers were Call of Duty WW2, FIFA 18 and PUBG.
The most interesting figure of the entire report is $89 million. Fortnite Battle Royale earned so much in December on all platforms where it was released.
