The creator of Sonic the hedgehog joined Square Enix

Game designer and one of the creators of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise Yuji Naka has moved to Square Enix. Naka announced this on his Twitter.

There are few details about the appointment of Yuji Naki yet. He only indicated that he would develop games for Square Enix and promised to tell more about it in the future.

Naka worked at Sega from 1983 to 2006. In 2006, he founded and headed his own Prope studio, which was engaged in the development of games for home and portable consoles, as well as for mobile platforms.

The company has developed games in various genres — from fishing simulators and mobile casual games to adventure action games and fighting games under the license of the Digimon franchise.

In 2011, the company released the Real Ski Jump sportssim on iOS and Android, which gained 4 million downloads in the next 3 years.

It is not yet known exactly how Naki’s transition to Square Enix will affect the status and affairs of Prope.

In addition to many years of work on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as a lead programmer and producer, Yuji Naka had a hand in such game series as Phantasy Star, Panzer Dragoon and dozens of other titles.
