EA: 35% of the audience of EA Sports titles spends money on the Ultimate Team mode
According to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, at least 35% of players make in-game purchases in the Ultimate Team modes of EA Sports games.
Jorgensen said this during the NASDAQ International Investor Program conference.
According to him, about 70% − 75% of all EA Sports fans play in the Ultimate Team. About half of them buy game content.
Ultimate Team is a set of special modes present in the games of the FIFA series, Madden NFL, NBA Live and other EA Sports titles.
In Ultimate Team, gamers can assemble teams with the participation of real athletes whose presence in the game is officially licensed. Virtual versions of famous athletes are sold in loot boxes, which can be bought both for in-game currency and for real money.
At the same time, Jorgensen does not believe that EA is specifically making efforts to squeeze extra money out of players.
“We try to attract users with the quality of our titles because we know that they will have a good time playing them, and the game will last for a long time,” said EA’s CFO.
Jorgensen developed this idea by comparing buying a video game to going to the cinema. According to the businessman, people are willing to pay $ 20 for an hour and a half in the cinema, and buying a game for $ 60 they provide themselves with much longer entertainment.
“And if they are willing to pay a little more so that the game gives them a little more fun and fun, there is nothing wrong with that,” Blake summed up.
