The free-to-play shooter from Epic Games earned $20+ million on paid early access

Over 500 thousand copies of the Fortnite cooperative zombie shooter from Epic Games were sold on the first day of the game’s early access release. A copy costs from $40.

This was written by the creative director of the Fortnite project Darren Sugg (Darren Sugg) in his Twitter. He noted that he was surprised by such high sales.

In addition to the basic edition for $ 40, users have access to versions of the game for $ 60, $ 80 and $ 150, differing in the amount of bonus content. The title is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version of Fortnite is not available on Steam, it can be purchased on the Epic Games website.

The game will remain in early access until 2018. It is expected that after the official release Fortnite will switch to a shareware model.

Fortnite offers gamers a variety of mechanics, combining elements of a third-person shooter, a survival simulator, a Minecraft-style constructor and a collectible card game.

Epic Games first announced Fortnite in 2011, and a playable alpha version for PC was introduced at the end of 2014. The game was developed by a subsidiary of Epic Games — studio People Can Fly.
