Classic MMORPG RuneScape will be released on mobile

The authors of the browser-based role-playing MMO game Runescape from the Jagex studio have announced the release of two versions of their work on mobile platforms in the near future.

Jagex intend to release the classic Old School RuneScape this winter, and then a more modern version of the game. When exactly, the studio did not specify.

Both versions will allow gamers to enter the game from both mobile devices and PC.

“We believe that we develop our games in accordance with the wishes of the players. As recent surveys have shown, 90% of active and 64% of former RuneScape players would like to continue playing on mobile platforms,” said Phil Mansell, Chief Operating Officer of Jagex.

The original RuneScape was released in 2001. For 16 years of existence, 250 million people have registered in the game.

In addition, RuneScape has twice been included in the Guinness Book of Records — as the most popular free MMORPG in the world and as the game with the largest number of updates.
