GREE closes all branches in the West
Japanese developer and publisher GREE is closing offices in Melbourne, San Francisco and Berlin, laying off employees and winding down direct operations in the West.
This is stated in the official statement of the company.
The exact number of employees who fell under the reduction is not specified, but only in the Australian branch of GREE, about 50 employees were left without work.
The statement called the decision “the starting point for a decisive change in GREE’s global gaming strategy.”
From now on, the company intends to launch games at home, and then localize and distribute the most successful titles in the rest of the world.
“The last three GREE projects have entered the top ten highest-grossing games in Japan. These games are either already presented on the international market, or they will be there soon,” the company’s representatives said.
In parallel, GREE will continue to support the Western portfolio, including Dragon Soul, Knights & Dragons, Modern War, Crime City and Kingdom Age.
