MTG acquired New Zealand studio Ninja Kiwi for $142 million
Swedish media company Modern Times Group (MTG) will become the new owner of Ninja Kiwi studio, known for the Bloons series of games. The transaction amount was $142 million.Bloons TD 6
Ninja Kiwi will also be able to count on an additional payment of $47.2 million if financial indicators are achieved over the next three years.
The takeover will be completed by the end of June.
MTG notes the expertise in the tower defense genre and the success of the Bloons franchise among the main advantages of the New Zealand studio. “We are impressed by the high organic traffic of Ninja Kiwi games, as well as the company’s ability to successfully combine a paid monetization model with in—game purchases,” said Maria Redin, CEO of MTG.Modern Times Group has been actively engaged in the M&A market in recent months. In December, the company acquired the developer of racing games Hutch Games, and also brought its stake in the German studio InnoGames to 68%.
In 2021, MTG plans to make several more deals to acquire studios specializing in different genres. This will allow the company to strengthen its gaming business and replenish its portfolio with successful titles.
