Microsoft acquired Double Fine, founded by Tim Shafer

A new game studio joined the Microsoft. The latter, at its presentation timed to E3, announced the purchase of Double Fine, the authors Broken Age and the Psychonauts series.

No new projects were announced as a result of the transaction. There are no conditions either. Microsoft just said that it wants new cool games from the studio.

Tim Shafer, the founder of Double Fine, noted in a separate video that Microsoft has no plans to change anything in the work of the company, which has remained independent for 20 years.

He also noted that cooperation with Microsoft will allow the studio to no longer search for a publisher for each game around the world.

Now the studio is busy with two games. Firstly, he completes the Rad project for Bandai Namco, which she will publish. Secondly, it is preparing for the release of the long-term Psychonauts 2. Recall that the latter was announced back in 2015. Then the game raised $ 3.3 million for its development with the help of crowdfunding.

Until recently, the rights to the Psychonauts 2 edition were held by Starbreeze. However, as it became known today, the Swedish publisher handed them over to Microsoft.

Microsoft has been actively buying up AA studios since last year. Among its recent acquisitions are Obsidian and inXile.
