The authors of H1Z1 began to lay off employees
California-based video game developer and publisher Daybreak Game Company has laid off an unspecified number of employees. The company is known as the creator of the multiplayer action movie H1Z1 — one of the first popular games in the “battle royale” genre.
The layoffs in Daybreak were reported by GamesBeat, referring to the official statement of the company.
The management of the publishing house admitted that it was forced to reduce some of the employees for the sake of the future of Daybreak. The company also announced that it will continue to develop and release “large-scale online games and support existing projects.”
The peak of the popularity of H1Z1 (more precisely, its separate mode of the “royal battle” King of the Kill) occurred in July last year. Then the online gaming exceeded 150 thousand people, and the title occupied the 3rd place in the rating of the most popular Steam games.
But after the release of PUBG and Fortnite, interest in H1Z1 declined sharply, and by February of this year, the online project was reduced to 9 thousand players.
