Following the shutdown of The Initiative, there were discussions involving Take-Two Interactive about funding and publishing their reboot of Perfect Dark. These talks occurred after the developer closed in July.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the negotiations did not succeed, leading to job cuts at Crystal Dynamics, which was co-developing the game. The report mentions that The Initiative's leadership had been in talks with several potential partners for a couple of months, which included a prospect involving Take-Two and Embracer, Crystal Dynamics’ parent firm. However, the discussions stalled due to disagreements over the long-term ownership of the Perfect Dark intellectual property.

Representatives from Embracer, Xbox, and Take-Two were contacted by Bloomberg but chose not to comment on the situation.

Perfect Dark’s reboot was first unveiled at the 2020 Game Awards and marked the debut project for The Initiative, an Xbox studio established in 2018. As of 2023, reports indicated the game was still in the early stages of development, despite years passing since its reveal.

The Initiative originally collaborated with Certain Affinity for the game's development before Crystal Dynamics was brought on as a co-developer in 2021. Crystal Dynamics, along with Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, was acquired by Embracer Group in a $300 million deal.
