Kojima Productions has revealed data on Death Stranding sales. The game's circulation exceeded 5 million copies

Until today, the exact number of copies of Death Stranding sold remained unknown. On the eve of the release of the expanded version, Kojima Productions decided to share official data. Death Stranding overcame the milestone of 5 million copies sold in the world in March. “From the point of view of sales, the game showed good results,” said Bur.

Prior to that, only information on individual platforms and regions was received from official sources:

  • in the first week of sales, Death Stranding sold almost 186 thousand copies in Japan — it was the best start of a new IP in the country since Dark Souls;at the start in Russia, the project became the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, surpassing the indicators of God of War and Spider-Man;
  • Contrary to rumors about the failure of Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima himself was pleased with the results of the game — it paid off the development and allowed him to independently finance the studio’s next project;
  • In April, publisher 505 Games announced that the PC version of the game had earned €23 million as of December.
  • Kojima Productions is currently working on an expanded edition of Death Stranding Director’s Cut for PlayStation 5.

It will have updated graphics, new story tasks and other additional content. The reissue will be released on September 24.
