Rovio's quarterly profit rose to $14.1 million due to lower costs for UA
Finnish Rovio has halved the cost of attracting users. Thanks to this, the company’s profit grew by 75% year-on-year in the last quarter.
The studio reported this in the report for the 1st fiscal quarter of this year. It coincides with the calendar.
Total figures for the quarter
- Rovio earned $72.2 million. This is 6% less than the revenue for the same quarter of 2019.
- The company’s profit, on the contrary, has grown. It rose 74.8% year-on-year to $14.1 million.
- Such a significant increase in profit is due to a reduction in spending on UA: in the 1st quarter of 2019, Rovio bought traffic for $ 25.7 million, and in January-March 2020 – for $14.6 million, which is 43.3% cheaper. The company has reduced spending specifically to reach payback.
- Rovio notes that in the 2nd quarter of the year it plans to spend an amount comparable to $14.6 million on UA.
Projects
- Rovio’s flagship project, Angry Birds 2, earned $27.1 million in the quarter due to net receipts (gross bookings). The game’s revenues are growing in quarterly terms, despite a reduction in UA spending.
- Angry Birds: Dream Blast, released a year ago, had revenues of $17.5 million. This is slightly less than in the last quarter of 2019.
- Rovio plans to launch up to three new projects in 2020. Now she has Angry Birds: Tennis, Angry Birds: Casual and Angry Birds: Legends in her soft launch.
