Unity Pro and Unity Plus subscriptions will rise in price next year
Unity Technologies will change the cost of Unity Pro and Unity Plus subscriptions for the first time. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2020.
Now the price for Unity Pro is $125. The cost of Unity Plus is $35. But on the specified date, the prices in the company’s store will increase:
- Unity Pro — up to $150;
- Unity Plus — up to $40.
The Unity Personal subscription will still be free.
Important: already subscribed users will not be affected by the changes. But if in 2020 they want to renew their subscription, purchase a new one or include new jobs in it, then they will have to pay an increased cost.
Unity Technologies is updating the price for the first time since it launched the subscription system. The company’s announcement says that the price increase is related to future investments in new technologies, functions and services of the Unity service.
The price has remained unchanged for more than three years. <...> Although we have achieved great success, we want to achieve much more.
Now this news is being actively discussed on Reddit and other forums. As the Telegram channel “Game Dev that we deserve” reported, many Unity developers are dissatisfied. According to them, the rise in subscription prices while Unity does not fix bugs and launches raw functions is not the most reasonable move.
Other developers noted that prices will not rise critically. According to the calculations of enthusiasts on Reddit, Unity, even with the new prices, will remain a cheaper engine than Unreal Engine 4.
