Adobe Shockwave web content creation platform to be closed next month
Adobe Shockwave support will officially end on April 9. Adobe has recognized this multimedia platform as obsolete.
Together with the closure of Shockwave, it will become impossible to download the multimedia player of the same name for Windows, writes Gizmodo. However, Adobe’s corporate customers will be able to use the platform until 2022, until their contracts with the company expire.
Adobe Shockwave is designed to create interactive web content, including video games and other applications. Using the Shockwave Player plugin, this content was displayed in browsers. To date, the platform is almost not in demand. As Adobe writes on its official website, with the increase in the use of mobile devices, WebGL and HTML5 have become much more popular.
By the way, for the same reason Adobe will stop supporting Adobe Flash next year.
