NPD: in June, the American gaming market earned $4.93 billion
In June 2021, Americans spent almost $5 billion on video games, hardware and accessories, NPD Group analysts found out. One of the most popular purchases was the Xbox Series X|S console line — it surpassed other consoles in earnings for the first time.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift ApartKey data:
- the total market turnover for the last month amounted to $4.93 billion — 5% more than in June 2020;
- American gamers spent the most on mobile, console and PC games, as well as cloud services and subscriptions – $4.32 billion. This is only 1% more than a year ago;
- iron sales immediately increased by 112% to $401 million. This was achieved largely thanks to the new generation consoles and the Nintendo Switch. The latter retained the title of leader among consoles in terms of the number of copies sold, but the Xbox Series X|S line became the leader in revenue in dollars for the first time;
- accessory sales continue to fall. This time, revenues decreased by 1% year-on-year to $207 million. DualSense controllers remained the most purchased peripherals.

Important: NPD tracks sales of physical copies from retailers and receives data on the “figure” from publishers. But not all companies provide information. For example, Nintendo does not disclose digital sales of exclusives, and Activision Blizzard does not share information from Battle.ne t.
The rating is also based on net sales of games (without microtransactions and subscriptions). An asterisk marks titles in which digital sales were not taken into account. And the familiar ones are titles that did not take into account sales in the “figure” on Xbox.
