The government of India drew attention to the video game market, speaking in support of the industry
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support for local developers. The Government considers it necessary to create projects inspired by Indian culture. Most of Modi’s official statement, which was published this week, is devoted to the toy market.
However, the Prime Minister also paid special attention to video games.
According to Modi, the country needs to hold more hackathons among teenagers and students and encourage innovation in the gaming industry.
“India should realize the huge potential in this area and become the leader of the international gaming sector in developing games that are inspired by Indian culture and folk tales,” Modi believes.
The last part of the statement is directly related to the government’s initiative “Ek Bharat Shreshte Bharat” (Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat). It is aimed at fostering national pride and unity based on the traditions and history of India.
The latest example of the implementation of this policy is the adventure game Raji: An Ancient Epic, developed by the Indian company Nodding Heads Games and released this month on Nintendo Swtich.
India is one of the most developing gaming markets in the world. Last year, the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnik, included it in the list of the most promising regions along with Africa.
